Christmas Goose

Special Link

From time to time, people who come to Writers Bloc undertake special songwriting projects. Every year, we have the Song-Along at Rasputin's - this year, 2008, will the 16th annual Song Along. In recent years, other projects have included:

the Highway 7 evening,

"There's No Place Like Home", an evening of new songs about home and homelessness.

Christmas Goose

Christmas Goose involved production of a CD and two concerts at the NAC 4th stage in 2003. In 2004, GOOSE was formed to run this and other new songwriters projects. Chrsitmas Goose has run every year since then.

Chrysalis

Chrysalis is a performance event where local songwriters sing the songs of other local songwriters, old and new. Fascinating to hear a new take on some songs - especially if they are yours ...  usually happens in June or July, at Rasputin's, organized by Missy Burgess.

Song-Along

And the perennial project is the annual Song-along. The Song-along is an event (usually two nights in early April) where all comers get to sing a newly-written song on one of the topics - below - and one other song of their choosing in front of a live and appreciative audience at Rasputin's cafe on Bronson. It's a great event - like a festival of new songs.

A number of them have been recorded and the selected songs released on CD - check the Rasputin's website for these, or ask Tony (below).

Topics for 2008 can be found here.

To sign up, send a note to Tony Turner. Tony writes:

"Performers need to specify the date they want and whether they want to play early or late or don't care. We usually start at 7:30 pm."
